School-based speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are continually tasked with increased responsibilities and accountability for meeting the individualized needs of growing and diverse caseloads. This course will higlight Book Creator as an engaging multimedia digital creation tool that can be used to streamline service delivery across all age ranges and all areas of disability. Participants will gain an overview of the basic features and accessibility tools and will learn how Book Creator can be used as a tool for creating individualized lessons across all types of service delivery models. Creation of personalized student portfolios will be discussed as a means of housing individualized student objectives, assignments, data collection, and to promote collaboration between students, SLPs, teachers, and parents. Examples of lesson templates, visual support tools, social stories, assessment rubrics, and sample portfolios will be shared.

Maleah Stewart

Maleah Stewart is a speech-language pathologist (SLP) at North Forsyth Middle School in Forsyth County, Georgia. She has 23 years of experience as a school-based SLP and served as the 2017 Forsyth County Teacher of the Year as well as the 2019 Georgia Teacher of the Year Runner-Up. Maleah earned her Bachelor of Arts from Oglethorpe University, where she was class Valedictorian, and her Master of Education in Communication Disorders from Georgia State University. She earned her Certificate of Clinical Competency from the American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association in 2000. She serves on the State Superintendent’s Teacher Advisory Council and is an active member of the Georgia Teacher of the Year Association.

Participation and completion requirements

Participants must provide course feedback and pass a course exam with a score of 80% or higher in order to receive a certificate of completion for certification maintenance hours (CMHs). Additionally, participants must complete a final opt in step for your completion to be submitted to the ASHA Continuing Education Board.

ASHA CEUs are awarded by the ASHA Continuing Education Board once eligibility requirements are met. The exam, course evaluation, and CE paperwork for this course must be completed by the date outlined for the course offering. If you do not correctly and completely finish all steps by the deadline, you will not be eligible to receive ASHA CEUs for this course.
