Some speech-language pathologists (SLPs) establish their own private practice while working in schools. Having a private practice allows one to be in full control of his or her professional, personal, and financial life while providing clients with exactly what they need without the restrictions that schools impose. There are certain things you must consider before opening a private practice. This course will discuss why starting a private practice is a good idea and how to do it without taking on too much risk. As a result of this course, you will be able to apply actionable strategies that will help you be successful in your private practice.

Ahlam Issa, M.S., CCC-SLP, is a speech-language pathologist from Ann Arbor, Michigan. Ahlam has worked with children and adults of all ages, helping them find joy in communicating. Ahlam Issa received her Master of Science in Communication Sciences & Disorders from Eastern Michigan University. She worked in the school system for a number of years before opening her own private practice. She owns Issa Speech Therapy, a bilingual private practice in Ann Arbor, Michigan that specializes in the assessment and treatment of speech, language, and fluency disorders. As the owner of Issa Speech Therapy and an ASHA Certified Speech Language Pathologist, Ahlam provides services in schools, in person, and via teletherapy to toddlers, school-aged children, and adults throughout Michigan. Ahlam enjoys working with families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. She believes that it is important for therapy to be fun, engaging, and culturally and linguistically responsive. Ahlam’s goal at Issa Speech Therapy is to provide individualized treatment based on the needs of her clients and work closely with families to ensure their progress and growth.
