Say Goodbye to Nerve-Racking IEP Meetings by Setting Yourself Up for Success!

Writing IEPs and leading IEP meetings can be nerve-racking, but it doesn't have to be! The key to a successful teaming with families is conducting IEP meetings that foster trust between all parties. You'll learn why it's crucial to provide your rationale for IEP recommendations, how to narrow down goals based on students' functional needs, and how to conduct meetings that leave parents feeling seen, heard, and respected.

  • Mia McDaniel

    MA CCC-SLP

Mia graduated with her Master of Arts from Louisiana State University in 1995 and immediately began working in Louisiana Public Schools. She spent 20 years working as a school-based therapist, treating and evaluating students from age 3 through middle school. In 2016, Mia took on the role of Coordinator of speech, language, and hearing services in her district while also providing support for children with behavioral needs, training staff in CPI, and supporting Teachers of the Deaf in addition to 40+ SLPs. Mia was also tasked with the job of training new special education teachers about IEP-related issues. In 2018 and 2019, respectively, Mia was honored with awards from both of Louisiana's State speech, language, and hearing associations, including one for Excellence in Leadership. Under her guidance, the district was honored as "School System of the Year." Since retiring from public schools in 2019, Mia runs a private practice through her home while also creating resources for SLPs and providing professional development to school districts. A fun fact about Mia is that she is a cat foster mom for the local shelter, and her therapy sessions are usually attended by a crew of cats or kittens!
