Creating Thematic Units to Target Grammar

Improving the grammar of children with language disorders can present many challenges. Clinicians know that repetition is important, but often “drill” activities lack context and do not actively engage students. In this lecture, the evidence bases for intervention techniques supporting the development of spoken grammar within contextualized mini units will be reviewed along with practical tips for developing your own grammar units for a variety of spoken grammar targets.

  • William Bolden III

    Ph.D., CCC-SLP

    William (Bill) Bolden III, Ph.D., CCC-SLP is an assistant professor at Kent State University (KSU). Since graduation, Bill has worked primarily in the public-school setting, driven by his passion for language and literacy development. For several years, he worked at KSU providing school-based speech and language services as part of the telepractice project. Additionally, he provided supervision to graduate student clinicians as part of their clinical practicum in both on-site and telepractice settings. Bill lectures frequently on topics related to telepractice and language disorders. He has presented at the state, national and international level, including several contributions to online professional development platforms.
