Evaluation and Eligibility for School SLPs: Exploring Regulations and Research

Evaluation and Eligibility for School SLPs: Exploring Regulations and Research

Speech-language pathologists (SLPs) and the teams they work with must understand the many requirements for evaluation set forth in federal and state law. Conducting a comprehensive evaluation with documentation of all required eligibility criteria will help school SLPs combat over-identification, high SLP caseloads, and civil rights issues. This session will integrate regulations with best practice and the latest research in the field. Case studies will highlight the need for professionals to differentiate educational and medical regulations and requirements and provide opportunities to discuss communication with families and others.
