Five Mistakes to Avoid in Data Collection

Meaningful data collection is not only best practice in order to make data-driven clinical decisions, but also necessary to protect clinicians and organizations against lawsuits. However, many SLPs are overworked, overwhelmed, and can overlook the importance of collecting and reflecting on data during their busy work days. Importance can be placed on in the moment, intuitive decisions, rather than a reflection on quantitative and qualitative information recorded during treatment sessions. This session will address common pitfalls in the way speech-language pathologists (SLPs) collect and report on data and provides guidelines for participants to implement meaningful data based decisions for all students on their caseload.
