Transgender Cultural Responsiveness for Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologists

Transgender Cultural Responsiveness for Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologists

Teaching pronouns as a speech-language pathologist (SLP) can feel tricky when you haven’t been taught inclusive pronoun practices. As a trans SLP, I will walk you through an introductory course on being an inclusive practitioner. We will build vocabulary around transgender experiences, discuss why the work of trans inclusion is important, and explore therapy practices with a gender inclusive lens.

Presenters

  • Wes Chernin

    MS, CCC-SLP

Wes Chernin (he/him) is an early childhood speech-language pathologist in Portland, Oregon and has worked in various roles in public education since 2009. Wes is a recipient of the Oregon Safe Schools and Communities Coalition (OSSCC) 2019 Safe Schools Award for his work as a queer and trans inclusion consultant.
