Early Identification of Language Disorders and Intervention Series

This two-part mini series is designed for speech-language pathologists and early intervention professionals committed to advancing their diagnostic and intervention skills with young children. Through practical strategies, current research, and real-world case examples, participants will deepen their understanding of how to both identify and support children with language delays and disorders in the birth-to-preschool population.

Course 1 – Catching the Clues: Identifying Language Delays and Disorders in Young Children
Learn how to confidently differentiate between language delays and disorders in children ages 18 months to 4+ years using culturally responsive tools, dynamic assessment, and a Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) framework. This course explores how to integrate AI tools, analyze child-caregiver interactions, and synthesize findings for more equitable, evidence-informed decision-making.

Course 2 – Intervention Strategies for Language Delays and Disorders in Young Children
Build on your assessment skills with actionable, evidence-based intervention strategies to support expressive language development. You’ll explore how to embed structured word-learning techniques into natural routines and play, track vocabulary growth, and collaborate effectively with families to create meaningful, measurable goals.

Catching the Clues: Identifying Language Delays and Disorders in Young Children

SLPs who work with the birth-three population and young preschoolers are essential in correct identification of children who present with early characteristics for developmental delays. This course provides speech-language pathologists with the tools to accurately assess and differentiate language delays from language disorders in children. Emphasizing culturally responsive practices, learners will explore standardized and dynamic assessments, integrate Social Determinants of Health (SDOH), and apply AI in language sampling. Through real-world case studies and observational methods, participants will enhance their diagnostic reasoning and develop individualized, evidence-based intervention plans.
