One Book Many Ways: Address Diverse Goals with a Single Book

Studies show that contextualized approaches, like literacy-based intervention help children reach desired progress in narrative comprehension as well as grammatical complexity faster. (Gillam, Gillam, Reece 2012) From language development to critical thinking skills, this webinar will explore the power of leveraging a carefully selected picture book to target a myriad of goals. Discover how one book can serve as a versatile tool, enabling educators and speech pathologists to address a spectrum of learning goals while also stimulating curiosity and increasing empathy. Participants will walk away equipped with a reusable plan to make the most impact with books!

    Shontaye Glover Jones is a children's book author and speech-language pathologist. In 2016, she founded her private practice Having Our Say, LLC to create a space where families and children would feel seen, valued, and be heard. Shontaye has presented to professionals nationwide on the importance of inclusive libraries and has become a trusted book influencer. Shontaye made her debut as an author in 2020. Written under the pen name "Taye Jones," her debut picture book, "Liam's First Cut" is a story that centers family and neurodiversity as Liam, an autistic Black boy, prepares for his first trip to the barbershop.
