Stuttering Is My Voice: How Speech Therapists Can Empower People Who Stutter

Applying lessons from the neurodiversity movement, Stutterology will lead an engaging session about how speech therapists can make room for stuttering in nuanced ways, how to serve their stuttering clients with advocacy-focused outcomes, and how to respond when a client (or a family member) wants "fluency". And, of course, why it matters.

Stuttering Is My Voice: How Speech Therapists Can Empower People Who Stutter

This course will be live on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 3 pm Eastern Time. Replays will follow immediately and will be available through Aug. 15, 2026.

Have you considered that stuttering therapy being one of the most challenging fields for speech therapists is because oftentimes, the ask is both impersonal and impossible? Wouldn't it be beautiful to find ways to honor your clients' voices, stutter and all?

This course equips SLPs to transition from fluency-centric models to neurodiversity-affirming stuttering therapy. Participants will consider their impact, explore trauma-informed responses to client fluency requests, and discuss advocacy-based frameworks. It will also analyze how the social model of disability theory can improve client relations and redefine speech therapy "success".
